Addiction
The science on addiction is out. This is a non-discriminatory condition that affects between10% and 15% of our country’s population. Neuroscientists, drug and alcohol experts and addicts all point to the combination of genetic make-up, environmental influences and the sensory saturation modern society demands, as factors that contribute to the affliction of addiction.
Likewise, the same experts are also unanimous on one critical protector - early intervention.
OkEd. offers the ‘Addiction’ presentation to schools.
This tripartite product consists of:
Group presentations - staff and students
Each presentation consists of a story, brain education and survival tips.
‘Addiction’ is tailored to age in order to be developmentally appropriate:
The Middle School presentation starts with of a real-life story of a young man addicted to gaming. The examples used to illustrate the neuroscience behind addiction focuses on the over use internet, pornography and gaming.
The Senior School presentation takes the audience through a harrowing story of adult drug addiction. The level of neuroscientific research presented is a little more in-depth than the in the previous presentation, but digestible and pragmatic. The content focuses on over use of pornography, gambling and substance abuse.
